Before your first day you will also need to:

Complete a criminal background check and fingerprinting (both included in tuition). Some convictions can limit externship placement or TSBDE registration. We will ask for your written authorization separately.
Provide proof of Hepatitis B vaccination, or sign a declination form, before clinical labs and the externship.
Sign an enrollment agreement and pay the applicable fees.

Criminal history notice

Texas law (Occupations Code §53.152) requires us to give this notice to every applicant and student, whether or not you have a criminal record.

A criminal conviction may make you ineligible to register as a dental assistant with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE), even if you complete this program.
TSBDE's guidelines for considering criminal history are in its rule on persons with criminal backgrounds, 22 Texas Administrative Code §101.8 (opens in a new tab), adopted under Occupations Code Chapter 53.
TSBDE may also apply other state or local restrictions or guidelines when it decides whether a person with a criminal record is eligible. Ask TSBDE for its current requirements.
You have the right to ask TSBDE for a criminal history evaluation letter under Occupations Code §53.102, before or while you are enrolled.
